ND Camshaft Inspection

Manual Gauging Station for Multidimensional Inspection of Conrods

A) Problem Description

Camshafts for automobile engines are manufactured using a variety of methods.They can cause a variety of quality defects, such as:

* porosity

* hardness cracks

* casting shrinkage, cavities and holes

* missing material

Subsequent grinding can also cause cracks or grinding burns (soft spots). They are caused by variations during grinding operations such as changes in grinding speed, changes in grinding wheel/workpiece position and by the effects of the coolant used.

In the past, attempts to automate test procedures have often failed.

B) Solution

Complex geometry’s such as camlobes can now be easily tested with standard Marposs N.D. probes. The Marposs N.D. inspection method is based on the Eddy Current technology. It is the only method capable of performing N.D. inspections automatically. For this reason, it can be easily installed into a production line for 100% inspection.

The traditional testing procedure, which is usually performed with magnetic powder and/or human evaluation, can be now reduced in terms of inspection time and overall cost.

Cracks as small as 100 microns in depth can be detected, dependent upon the surface finishing and material homogeneity

Manual Gauging Station M31

M31 - Manual Gauging Station for Multidimensional Inspection of Conrods

It is a final or inter-operational inspection bench gauge developed to accurately check all the final typical characteristics of the connecting rods.

It can be tailored to inspect a single part type or configured to be easily retooled for different part types. The dimensional and geometric checks that can be performed are:

  • Pin and crank bore internal diameters
  • Thickness
  • Ovality
  • Taper
  • Center distance
  • Squareness of bores to faces
  • Twist
  • Bend

M19 Gauge Plug for Transfer Lines

Marposs M19 plug is:

Probing System with Optical Transmission for CNC Lathes and Turning Centers designed to perform two internal diameter measurements in the same section of the bore at 90¬? to each other utilized after turning and grinding operations on transfer machines, special purpose machines and post-process gauging stations

typical for the check of connecting rods, cylinder bores and when measurement for ovality is required

The plug guarantees reliability and increased productivity of the process by automation of the process itself inclusive of the part measurement and closed loop feedback to the machine tool (compensation of tool wear, improvement of overall machining time and scrap reduction).
Measurements are performed by use of four Marposs measuring cells, each provided with one LVDT transducer.
The plug uses a body with fixed nosepiece. In order to protect it from potential collision due to part mis-positioning or part overstock conditions, the plug requires mounting to rigid recoiling devices.
In the diameter range from 22 to 80 mm the gauge plug is provided with cleaning air nozzles in the measuring section while in the diameter range from 16 to 22 mm the cleaning air flow is offset and located in proximity of the gauge fingers (the air inlet is always at 180¬? with respect to the junction box).
It can be connected to E9066N electronic unit for complex applications or applications for which statistical analysis is required and to E3 family electronic units for simple applications.
Side-by-side assembled on the machine, the gauge plugs can measure bores having minimum center distance of 71 mm.

Automatic Measuring Machine - M110

Automatic Measuring Machine for Inspection of Shafts (Crankshafts, Camshafts, Gear Shafts)

Automatic Measuring Machine for Inspection of Shafts (Crankshafts, Camshafts, Gear Shafts)

The M110 machine is an automated inspection system, developed to measure all dimensional and geometric parameters for shaft-like part configurations.
It is based on a modular construction and designed using the most advanced engineering criteria. The result is a reliable and accurate inspection instrument.

This gauging machine does not need to be housed in a controlled environment, thanks to it robustness. It operates in a normal production area and is suitable either for inter-operational and/or final inspections.

Besides gauging, functions like non destructive (ND) testing, marking and parts segregation may be easily integrated to the basic machine.

The M110 machine includes all the systems necessary to load, locate and rotate the parts to be inspected; no manual operations are required. This allows a completely automatic measuring cycle, including part load and unload.

The capability of high speed performance along with the application in shop floor conditions, make it possible to check all the conventional parameters on 100% of the manufactured parts, guaranteeing and certifying the overall quality of the production.

This equipment is used along with the E9066N FLAT PANEL and/or the E70s electronic unit. Follow the link to know more: Automatic Measuring Machine for Inspection of Shafts

Automatic Measuring Machine - M100

Automatic Measuring Machine for Inspection of Disk-Like Components (Brake Disks and Drums, Wheel Hubs)

Automatic Measuring Machine for Inspection of Disk-Like Components (Brake Disks and Drums, Wheel Hubs)

M100 is an automated inspection system for brake disks, brake drums and hubs.
The system can satisfy all the typical dimensional and geometric gauging requirements. Besides gauging, functions like non destructive (ND) testing, marking and parts segregation may be easily integrated to the basic machine.

Ease of maintenance and high gauging performances are obtained thanks to the most appropriate design and manufacturing technologies. This industrialization is also intended to minimize line down time in case of intervention.

The M100 is a gauging system based on a standard modular architecture; it can be easily tailored to solve any typical application on brake disks, drums and hubs. The system has been conceived for on-line automatic inspection, where dimensional and geometrical checks are performed dynamically at various machining stages, either inter-operational or final inspection.

Special dedicated solutions also allow different part types to be checked with or without retooling, follow the link:
